Went out Sunday morning for a rather disappointing return. Well the morning started off at 3am. I got down to my favourite wharf and Managed to only land 1 large arrow squid and drop 3 others…. Grrr… that was just so upsetting as that was all I managed in the next 2 hours. Anyway I then decided to head to manly and try my luck again with the only 1 arrow I had caught. I waited for first light and just as the sunrise came up I tossed in the live arrow. Well it took a whole 20 seconds and I could see that the arrow was trying to escape whatever was chasing it. The line was going all over the show. Anyway the float completely disappeared and my line began to peel off the spool, A couple more seconds and tighten. Up pops the float and no fish. What the….. reel in the line and well the arrow was no more except for a small part of the hood section . I rigged up using two hooks, one just behind the head of the arrow and the other in the end of the hood. How did that not managed to connect to anything…. Well After that it was pretty much quiet as there was nothing around. Water clarity was very poor. I then tried for some black fish and well I had one rather solid down and managed to land a 32cm Blackfish. In the live bag he went and I continued on for more blackfish with the other rod also baited up with the left over squid, suspended on a float. Well the sun was up and you could just make out the floats on the surface . So The rod with the squid float drifts slowly with the current and then suddenly there seems to be a lot of activity around the float. The float is just bobbing up and down which suggests little pickers but then a solid down the squid rod goes off again this time I strike and feel some solid weight… a few head shakes and well up comes the float….dam this was getting rather annoying. Anyway after that nothing seemed to want the left over squid. As for the Blackfish fishing well a couple of time while watching the squid rod I missed those solid downs which was also rather annoying. It seems that each time I held the squid rod the blackfish would take with solid downs but if I held the rod well nothing. By this time it was 8:30 and I decided to call it a morning… Having only landed the one Fish I decided that it was the fish’s lucky day.. I released it and went home. A rather disappointing result for all that effort but anyway still an enjoyable morning.
