catching yakkas

Hey guys,

i normally dont have trouble catching yakkas but for some reason i never get many off wharves. I fish balmoral a bit and maybe get a couple on a little hook rig but i would like to know if i should be able to get them on a jig here. Maybe i cant get them on a jig because the water is only 4 meters deep and they might get spooked? Any ideas?

Thats unusual mate yakkas can generally be very easy to catch. Only on occasions they can be quite shy and that usually means there are a few predators around. I find that sabiki jigs work very well and just put a tiny piece of pillie or prawn on the tip of the barb and thats all you need. A little burley cant hurt either.

Good luck mate

hey mate we find just using tiny, the tiniest you can find, hooks and burleying up alot of pillies and bread will get swarms of yakkas around balmoral wharf

we just float the baits down, no sinkers, and seem to catch plenty, mostly early morning
