The Incredible Hull
Went to the Hawkesbury this morning with a mate, launched at mooney mooney and it was packed as expected. We headed to The Vines (near Milson Island), anchored near the ledge about 3 boat length from shore. Within 30 minutes we pulled up 4 catfish eel. I'm so sick of those things! Decide to move... We then headed to Bar Island. I was in search for a 10m hole, however I couldn't find it, I think I was on the wrong side. Anchored there, had prawns, squid and mullet fillets. I put a squid strip on my bream rod, before I knew it, it went down. It gave a decent fight, I thought it was a flattie. Got it to the surface, a small shovel nose shark. On my other 6-12kg rod, I had a strip of mullet, and it was very popular, the little breams kept picking at it. It also buckled... this time it was much more powerful. It ran a few times, I was very excited being a total beginner, but kept my cool, loosen the drag a little so it could run. Started wind it up, tightened the drag a little, hardly any head shakes... and it surfaced. A bigger shovel nose shark! I didn't measure it, but guessing it was around 55cm. Mate took a quick pic (shocking to say the least as you couldn't see how wide it was) and released him for another day. During all this action, we did catch a number of undersized bream, flatties and whiting, all throw backs. Went home empty handed but that 2nd shovel nose made up for all the past fishing trips! Very happy.
gonfishing
Join the club mate, everytime I head out that way, it's always the same result. Sting ray, eels and the most famous hawksie catfish is all I ever get.
The Incredible Hull
yer from the places I've fished, anywhere between brooklyn and milson island holds lots of catfish eels. However for the first time, I had zero catfish at Bar Island. Definitely going back sometime soon
