kurtisjohnthomas
I just wanted to see if anybody had seen this in seasons gone past. The last three times I have been out fishing the Harbour and Pittwater, big schools of Salmon have been entirely munched by Dolphins. We go from catching nearly a fish a cast to nothing at all. It has been remarkable to see the fish come back again, but it seems as though as soon as we get a new school of Salmon in the harbour they are eatern by the dolphins. My concern is the same will happen to the kingfish and any other schools that come into the harbour. Has anybody seen this in seasons gone back? Catchin Jack
Same thing happening up Swansea, it's great to watch them in action and gives us a good break from fishing and go in search of new spots.
Mr Squidy
About five years back i had a day on the Hacking where i was pulling in Tailor one after another, then up shows one lone dolphin, didn't see a Tailor for the rest of the day. martoiscool
If dolphins turn up where I'm fishing I pull up stumps and leave... My theory is they are the biggest and smartest predator so all the other predators I'm trying to catch, bream, tailor, jewies etc disappear.. It doesn't matter how good the spot or weather or even how good the fish are biting. I'm outa there!!
chewie
Hey Kurt, I saw that big school get smashed up that day with you. i was out about 2 weeks ago with errol and we had a dolphin casually cruising along our bow with an 80cm kingie in its mouth. Kings are definitely their prey. chewie
kurtisjohnthomas
Chewie, I saw exactly the same thing we saw that day, on Monday.. It's really frustrating, especially fly fishing, because we rely on the surface fish..
Jewdreamer
Fishing down in Jervis bay about 20 years ago with the then wife....poling em Then all goes quiet...WTF? Up pops a pod of dolphins playing and feeding and doing what they do if you know what I mean... Not a nibble for the next 2 hours...
