Looks like the kings this season have been hitting the fish markets. Know afew people in the markets and also a few people I know in the charters have been talking about illegal longliners clearing the kings out again. Which sucks why do we bother paying for lisences?

Here Here......You have hit the nail on the head mate. I happened to be at Rockdale Plaza the other day shopping and the amount of undersized Kingfish they were selling was unbeleivable. These fish were no bigger than 50cm and we get slugged for taking home a fish under 65.

This is where our fees are going to the mungrus breaking the law. :ranting2: Great post!

Honestly man we finally took the plunge and are awaiting delivery of our boat the last thing I want to do is go down to the twelve or the peak and find nothing on the sounder. But that's what it will be if these idiots continue. The peak was regarded as the best reef in the world for gamefishing. Now all u find there is afew rats, pinkies and the local seal.

Good fun? Someone remind me why we pay for fishing lisences?

Don't go off your nut if you are not aware of the legalities of the situation.

Those undesized fish you see at the markets are farmed fish, most probabaly from South Australia. The farmed fish do not have a size limit and they are the 'rats' you see at the markets. All commercial boats are not permitted to bring undersized fish to market. If they do so they will be fined and the fish will be taken as evidence.

I hate the fact that fish stocks cop a flogging just as much as the next guy but it is not fair to make false claims against people on a public forum.

Hi Fishmaniac,

Your point is very interesting about aquacultured fish being supplied to market at a length less than 65cm.

I didn't know that, and it got me thinking to see if I can verify the length of a farmed kingfish at harvest time...

I did a google search and I found the following link - a news article dated 15th September this year - very recent.

The article states that cleanseas, our major supplier, has cut local supply of farmed kingfish due to very lucrative overseas demand.

If virtually all farmed kingies are going OS, then why would there be an oversupply here of sub 65cm farmed fish going for $5 a kilo, as Aqua Naut has stated ?

I'm not leaning one way or another because I did not personally view nor document any of these events and so to draw conclusions would not be right.

But it does make me think....

Tony

Now listen up everyone,

This has been on the forums before about kingies being sold at the markets and they were indeed farmed fish as reported by a few members.

Talking about illegal captures should be forwarded to the fisheries and NOT here.

Professional fisherman that have a licence have rights as well as us and to call people idiots and the like will not be tolerated.

The Peak has not fished well since the government moved the ocean out fall (yes sewerage)

Kingies are seasonal and they do move around as seen by Botany Bay and Sydney Harbour which have fished well over the years.

The question in the first instance was there any Kings at the 12 mile or the Peak................. there either is or there isnt.

Stick to the point of the intial post and we will all be happy.

MEMBERS BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE SITE RULES ON ILLEGAL FISHING
