stormy
Shot out for a quick recon of a fishing spot I am going to take a mate to tomorrow. He hasn't fished for blackfish in 30 years, so I wanted to see if there were any around, following last weeks great session. I was surprised to see almost no wash at all and the clearest water I have seen in many years. Baited up and cast out. A very slow drift took the float out some 30m and it slowly sank out of sight. Lifted the rod and was on. A nice fish of around 36cm came to the rocks and was "washed" up. Cast out again, as far as I could with the Avon centrepin, and drifted around for about 10 minutes before the next down came. Another fish of the same size. I decided to move east about 50m to a small section which had some water movement. Baited up and dropped the float about a rod length out. The float went under and I thought I had hooked the kelp, so needed to shorten up. Nope, a good fish, full of fight. Landed him (I say him, because they all proved to be males when I cleaned them) and cast out again. No sooner had the float settled, when it was ripped down again. Another good fish. I decided to time how long it took from when the float settled to the time it went down, on the next few fish. Well, I find it hard to believe, but it took 8 seconds for the quickest and 90 seconds to the slowest for the next 7 fish. I left them biting. I arrived at the location at 10am, put the first bait in at 10.15am and packed up at 11.20am for 11 fish and 2 dropped. Bodes well for tomorrow, if the weather holds. Thanks for the inspirational title, Trung Notice the hat in the pics
