jdburghboy
Hi all This is my first post, although I've been a member for several years and really enjoy the site. I'm heading up to Wooli with the boss in the van in November for a couple of weeks. I haven't fished this area before, I'll be land based, does anyone have any rock, beach or estuary tips. anthony f
Hi mate, although I haven,t fished wooli for a while I can tell you it is a beautiful spot you will be able to fish some flats for usual estuary fish, the wall fish well for ludrick at times as well as jew and tailor. The beachs would well be worth a look at as would the surround headland which will require a short drive. When fishing the rock areas of the river and walls you can also factor mangrove jack into the equation.

Hopefully I'll be able to post some info and with some luck some pics of my exploits for the benefit of other raiders who visit the area in the future. bluebottle18
Just returned from a weeks fishing in the area. The beaches were very easy to fish with calm seas and good banks but not a lot to talk about in size and quantity of fish. Afew whiting and small bream. The breakwall during the day was very quiet but at night was ok for the odd bream but nothing any bigger than 32cm. For the effort put in and the variety of bait used (fresh) it was very disappointing. The water is very clear so it is better that you fish early morn and at sun set. It is a great place to paddle a yak and the reefs had a few snapper on them to around 50cm. You have plenty of places/beaches to fish and not far to travel/drive from where you stay. There are plenty of rays around. As you know the locals are the best people to talk to and they were having difficulty to finding fish out on the reefs. There were small yellow fin around 50to 60cm. Launching of boats is generally from the beach. The locals are hoping it improves by November. Water temperature varied from place to place and was around 18-19 deg and are expecting it to rise from now. If you are after Squid from the bait shop you will pay the earth as a bloke buys it all up that comes off the trawler at Coffs. Hope this is of some help.Get a good map of the area. It will be a good help as you have many beaches to fish so it could mean choosing the right beach or launch your boat from. There are plenty of off shore reefs to explore close to shore and if your a yak fisho it is the ultimate. You will fall in love with the area as a fishing destination. Good luck and enjoy the break. The drive is pretty good all the way to near Coffs then road works will slow you down. Have a great holiday cause you will. CHEERS BLUEBOTTLE.
