boy53
Hi All, Just got a question to ask about Rainfall. Is rainfall 1-5mm safe for boat fishing? One of my mate booked the boat and we will be going out tomorrow? We will be launching from 6am - 5pm. Most likely will be back to Botany bay around 3pm. Thanks. max
tumra
Mate just depends how sheltered your spot is. I have fished in howling rain in the hacking a number of times and it has been pretty safe, but uncomfortable though. For the bay you should be considering the wind and the swell though as it can get pretty choppy...

As this is my 3rd time going out on boat, I am not sure what would be like rainfall of 1-5mm. We're just planning to go few km out to like 70meters for jigging Hope it would be sunny. Wind for Sat. 8am - 20.6 km/h 11am - 14.5km/h 2pm - 11.6 km/h 5pm - 8.8 km/h

Check out this link,Bom Wind/Waves, best forcast around from my experience. Also check seabreeze, etc. Keep in mind that when you read predictions they are often very general for the whole of Sydney, small storms can still hit only localised areas. In terms of safety alot depends on the size of yout boat and the skill/knowledge of your skipper. A few km out is far enough if you get stuck in the wrong weather in a small boat. I have a 4.5m fibre glass half cab and i only ever go out if conditions look perfect AND the prevailing weather system is stable. Please dont take offence but by the very nature of your question you really should do some more reaserch and gain some more experience if you are going to be the captain of a vessel heading offshore. BigKing
Hi Sat does not looks to good.. It all depends How big is your boat. And your experience to handle the boat. If you look at the weather 1 m wave with 5 sec wave period that is choppy. May not be a very good day to go wide. As for the forecast rain it does not looks too bad after 8 am but at 5 am it is bad. Good luck let us know how u go. Look at http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=208682 may give u bit of more details. like timeing of the rain and wave. Rich Hi Rich, Thanks for taking time to explain. Skipper is quite new and we don't have much experience with the boat. Boat is around or more than 6 meters and we have decided to go next week. Thanks for the useful site and I have bookmarked to check it next time

We have decided to go next week as you mention it could be quite choppy and not safe. We want to try jigging and that is why we need to go out bit far. The site you've given was awesome. Will use it for next time Oh btw, when are you going to take me out for kings haha
