Bar Island again

Took the family to Bar Island this morning. Was armed with 2 live poddys(for the first time), mullet fillets, prawns and squid, and special burley which took me ages to make! I bought a dedicated food processor, threw in old squid, mullet fillets, old prawns - then mixed it all with wheat bix in a bucket with water, works a treat

Had 3 rods going, 1 with the live poddy, 1 squid and 1 prawn. Within 5minutes of burleying, first hit, was the prawn bream rod. It certainly put up a good fight on 4lb braid and 6lb leader. She came in at 32cm, nice start!

10 minutes later, the live rod is screaming! 12lb braid with a 12lb FC leader, about 1.5m long. I really really thought it would be my first jewie, it put up a great fight. As I got it close to the boat, it dived straight under and did my best to keep it on my side of the boat, thankfully I managed to pull it out. As it came up, big flattie! Well, big in my terms anyway! Measured around 60cm, a PB for me! :yahoo: I really gotta thank Cut_loose AkA Quintrex101, mate all those weekends at chippo catching poddies on sabaki rigg has paid off!

Squid was getting no hits, so I decided to put prawns on it. 15 minutes after the flattie, the newly rigged prawn bait went off, reel went nuts! Breams are so fun to catch, they put up awesome fights. I got him up in the boat, measured at a whooping fat 35cm, another PB for me lol :yahoo:

This all happened during the run in tide, 1-2 hours. As soon as it reached high tide, and start to turn, there wasn't much. I got a few small bream, and some fish which I am not sure what it is. Its slender, long, and I think had light purple tinge, very pretty looking. And of course a couple of catties  Decided to call it a day.

I never had so much fun in 2 hours. Definitely best session for a newbie :biggrin2:

Nice when a plan comes together, well done on the bream and PB lizard. The mystery fish you described is a grinner and they tend to reside around rocky reefs and the likes, like Bare Is, Lion Is tends to have a fair number of them as well. Cheers Tone
