Berleyguts
Hi, I have Thursday off work (first week of new job and week days off are new to me...) and, tired of dragging my boat through peak hour traffic from Quakers Hill to my old stamping grounds of Georges River, Botany Bay or Port Hacking, I thought I might try what looks like a more leisurely drive to give the lower Hawkesbury/Broken Bay a try. I am a complete novice on the Hawkesbury system, having only fished the upper Hawkes around Wisemans Ferry, with limited success. Which would be the best ramp to use? Mooney Mooney or Parsley Bay? Is it worth the drive back over the bridge to get to Parsley Bay? Does it save much time launching there rather there rather than boating down from Mooney Mooney to fish say Juno Point, Flint & Steel, Lion Island? Boat is a 4m Stacer runabout with a Yamaha 25hp two-stroke and I'd be launching and retrieving on my own... unless anyone wants to come along and lend some expertise on the area. Mooney Mooney it is then. I can check out Parsley Bay from the water if necessary! Cheers, Baz
Catchin Jack
Both ramps are ok, it's more a question of which one is safer. Been a few car break-ins and trailer thefts lately. Mooney ramp is notorious for it, especially at night.

It looks like it would take me longer than 20 mins though. I would probably only sit on about 18 knots, although I can do 22 knots at WOT if the tide and wind are right. helliconia
Its an easier run from Appletree Bay though. The water is practically glass-like, none of the wind chop you get in the stretch from Brooklyn/Mooney Mooney. Once I exit Cowan Creek (past Cottage Point) I have to slow down because the gf doesn't like getting bounced around in the chop. I average 25 knots up until then, then back off to 15 the rest of the way to Flint & Steel.
sinbad66
i actually launch at appletree all the time but i do live at mt colah and have a park pass if your on the xpressway mooney mooney is only 10 or so mins past mt colah/bobbin head exit and it takes nearly that to drive down to appletree anyway plus if your planning to fish dangar/road bridges etc or even go down to lion island car fuel is cheaper than boat fuel
Testlab
Parsley bay has much better toilets, which female deckies will appreciate and the wash down area and fish cleaning tables are better. The carpark is fully sealed and frankly the whole area is nicer than Mooney Mooney. There are two public wharves, one near the ramp and one off to the other side of the breakwater enclosed launching area. There is little wash (idiots excluded) and little wind as it's an enclosed area. The Deerubin Park (Mooney Mooney) ramp is however quicker to use but the carpark is rugged and the dunnies are pretty foul. The finger wharf is convenient as you can back a car right up to it but it is exposed to the full chop and wash from the river and all that speeds past. They are both worth checking out. If you launch at Mooney and head downstream pop into Parsley and have a squiz for a few minutes. The waterside entry is against the south side of the point at Brooklyn, where the yachts are moored. Berleyguts
Thanks all. I think I'll try Mooney Mooney this time because I want to check out the bridges and I'll try Apple Tree Bay another time (but I might change my mind on Thursday morning!).
