waldo60
ANY IDEAS GUYS, HAVE AN OLDER 1986 YAMAHA , LAST YEAH, NEAR GEARBOX OIL, IMPELLER AND FUEL FILTER. AFTER 9 MONTHS OR SO I STARTED IT AND TODAY I NOTICED IT WASNT PUMPING WATER, TURNED IT STRAIGHT OFF AFTER 20 OR 30 SECS. GOT A PIN AND PUSHED IT IN THE OUTLET AND YEAH I GOT STEAM. STARTED HER UP AND I GOT WATER PUMPING...COOL, DISCONNECT HOSE FROM OUTLET AND ITS SQUIRTING REALLY WELL, PUT IN GEAR AND GIVE IT A FEW REVS THEN HMMM NO WATER PUMPING AGAIN... OFF AGAIN THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER ON AGAIN AND IT STARTS PUMPING AGAIN............. ANY IDEAS FELLAS WOULD BE GREAT. DOES IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING ELSE IS BLOCKED Edited October 21, 2011 by waldo60

There must be an impeller problem perhaps ?? Regards Swordie
Testlab
Might be as simple as some muck in the tell tale tube that blocks the hole under pressure but not all the time. Could be a dicky thermostat or the impeller has perhaps had the centre bush spun out so it is only gripping intermittently.
