port hacking addiction
Hey all what would be better for a jewfish in the river live other than squid. There are alot of topics on how live garfish are good for kings but if u had a choice for a jew what would be the pick out of the
bump73
I'd go yakkas over garfish, just can't see garfish being part of a jewies diet as they hang round on the surface.. Ben
Anti-Carp
Live yakka's have got to be the most overrated bait for jewies to the point where I'd say they are like brussel sprouts to a kid. Yakkas are great fodder for chopppers and salmon but jewies find them too much of a hassle getting down as they can be spikey little buggers. In my opinion garfish are a better option for jewies. I'd rate a fresh squid or a butterflied slimey a quantum leap above both baits though these days I can't be bothered tying on anything else except for a plastic or blades when chasing jewies. outdoordan
Garries hands down. I rate them much higher than Yakkas. But being an opportunistic feeder I think they would rarely pass up a lively yellow tail, dancing around wearing an 8/0 as bling. For this reason i often use them myself, that and they are easily accessed. But given a choice, it'd be mullet followed by a garrie.

GregL
Jews also hunt on the surface guys.... I have seen gars being chased by jews in 8m of water in quiet bays after big rains back of Lane Cove, have even landed one on a small plastic during a bream comp casting at the tail walking gars. Appox 10kgs Have heard them slurping bait off the top like barra in water deeper than 10m on steep rocky banks, then there are the bridge ones at night under lights.... Gars hands down on the edge of sandflat/weed beds.
