krist1303 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I usally go fishing with some Asian neighbours, no discrimination here-Im Asian too, some of them dont have much knowledge about thing called legal fishing. I saw they took a very small, tiny fishes just about your hand size which I guess bone only no flesh. Told them many time but it seemed useless as the way they thougth "we dont get someone will" I feel shamed standing next to them. Sometimes I wonder where's our officers? I cant call them because im with someone I know. Lately I go fishing without telling them, just me and my boyfriend. They often come over my place and show me their lil catch. "Poor fish". I got angry with them but I couldnt do anything to stop them. I hope one day our people will turn up at the right time. Someone need to learn something. Not just about us but abt our environment, our next generation. Dont know what they have in head...
Blood Knot Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Good on you for speaking up about something you are passionate about. Asian or otherwise the education process can seem to take a long time for some people. Just keep hammering away at your mates until they get the message. Cheers Blood Knot
Singers83 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Here here ..... Keep at them until they learn.... I managed to get through to my uncles and dad, to rid themsleves of their greedy fishing ways.... They are now at a point where even the smaller, legal fish are going back, and only the sustainable ones are kept for the table. I agree we need more officers on the water, at the ramps, along the wharves and breakwalls, nailing these guys with undersized fish and no licences..... Think of the revenue they could get through the fines!!!!! Cheers Singers.
3amigos Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) I had the same experience last week. They either don't care or just don't give a toss about sustaining fish. You try and be polite and let them know what they are doing is wrong but they just ignore you. All you can do is keep harping the point that it's illegal and no good for sustainability of fish in the area Cheers Edited October 27, 2011 by 3amigos
myocard Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I have some neighbours who like to fish. These two seem to adhere to size limits, but there is no limit on species. The ugliest reef fish you've ever seen make it into their esky. Np species is off limits, despite some very painful looking injuries that have been sustained from being spiked. I've seen some great bream and flathead in their catches as well. All with the worst looking bait I've seen - those cheap black prawns from the asian fish shops. We've spoken about foreign bait, size limits, species to throw back etc. What more can you do than offer decent advice?
Mr Squidy Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) Fisheries officers, What are they? I keep hearing about this rare species. Personally, after 20+ years of fishing the hacking and never having seen one i have come to the conculsion that they are simply a myth like yowies and bunyips. Also, well done on that cracking drummer in your previous post RnK, a fine fish. Rich Edited October 28, 2011 by Mr Squidy
