EPIRB Purchase

I am thinking of buying a EPIRB online from a well know tackle shop.. Once I recieve the EPIRB..What do I do now?

Do I have to register the EPIRB?

What information do I need handy to do this?

Where or how do I do this?

Is there anything else I have to do?

next will be a VHF radio, and I already have my Radio licence, so do I have to register the radio as well?

All the help and information I can get would be great please..

I dont want to take any risks, So I want to be all legal.. no cutting corners please..

all the info should come with the EPIRB. you can register them on line. once its registered you can log into your account befor going on a trip and put in where you are going, so if you have to activate your EPIRB rescue crews all ready have an idea where you are. its a bit like logging on and off on your VHF with marine rescue. just dont forget to change it if your going somewhere different, you dont want marine rescue looking at there computer thinking this EPIRB is logged in to be on Botany Bay but its signal is coming from Port Stephens.

I recently purchased a GME EPIRB and all the info came in the box.

The online registration is done HERE

If you are buying online, check the manufacture date on the beacon with the seller before purchasing as you don't want "old stock" that have been sitting around for ages.

As the battery needs to be replaced at a manufactures set interval.

thanks guys this one comes with a 7 year battery.. so I am guessing that is a good thing?
