tareeterror Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 How can I test my tilt trim gauge? was working fine few weeks ago, now as soon as key turned on it goes straight to flat out up, checked arm on motor it is not stuck, its a 1987 140 evinrude.
Blood Knot Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Am presuming a bit here, but could be worth looking at the wiring for faults 1st before testing the gauge itself. From memory (and it was along time ago) These senders are just a potentiometer that changes resistance as the motor goes up and down and relays this change in current to the gauge. So either the gauge is getting the wrong info due to elec or mech probs with the sender or there is a wiring problem along the way or the gauge is defective. I would be starting at the sender end and making sure you are seeing a varying out put from the sender going to the gauge before suspecting the gauge. Blood Knot
