Cobba12 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Hello raiders. Fished Bondi beach Saturday night from 10 till 12:30 around the high tide. Got one Salmon 60cm and that was it. Hell of a fight but only 1 fish. What was frustrating was the amount of fish that were clearly there. In the gutter i counted at least 5 salmon jump and in the past when i have seen them jump they are thick. I didnt put a lure on for a flick just simply because i was there to relax and fish and wasnt that bothered after getting the 1 fish. My pommy mate however has still not caught a fish since getting here and i really want him to get one. I convinced him to buy a rod and i thought salmon would a) be easy for a newbie to catch and be a lot of fun. I was using pillies on a paternosta rig. Anyone got any ideas for when the salmon are clearly not on feeding on larger fish. Oh and by the way the fish was empty, i had a look in its stomach to get an idea of feed but not a thing??? Any help would be good. Also help on chasing kings LBG. Thanks Cobba
rikkigilbey Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 we need to venture out to different beaches me thinks. bondi seems to produce one or two good fish a session if your lucky but never a good session with plenty of fish. Although the good fish are pretty substantial. i reckon the beaches around tama and bronte could produce in numbers as the salmon are obviously in the area during the day and they obviously dont head over to bondi in numbers and so the rest could potentially head south to those beaches? keen to try out me theory sometime soon if your are bud.

Yes and no. Yes im keen to try other beaches but no i think there is good bites on at bondi. Actually i know there is. Heard about lots of 20 fish nights from mates just not from me. I think we have a look at where the best gutters are and fish them I am keen to try Bronte, Tama is pretty flat sand wise but will keep an eye on it.
Kevin.Simon Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Hi Cobba, When you say you fished Bondi Beach, do you fish from the sand, or from the rocks to the north of the beach? (I'm new to Sydney, and live close to Bondi Beach. Keen to try a bit of fishing there - just looking for a bit of local knowledge!). Thanks so much, Kevin.
kulch Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 u need to try summers which is the surf break between tama and bronte - its always provides - its a massive deep gutter - the tama express - high tides going out, dont go in passed ur knees or you going too that being said, all you need is a metal slice and that 1 salmon would have turned into 5 - doesnt matte where PM me next time you go - i live up the road, and i havent fished bondi - i usually hit the harbour been meaning to hit bondi of a night - i reckon it provides plenty - nobody fishes the gutters ever during the day But Tama and Bronte at night are better - i havent done this, but i know and seen plenty getting pulled in - tailor, salmon and even jewfish LBG King - You need to hit Malabar, going around to Botany - The Golf Course Peninsula i call it - The water off Malabar is very deep, where as Bondi, Tama and Bronte dont really provide a ledge to great depths within casting range. Provided i dont win on the cup, i'll be getting some squid in rose bay tonight

Down the south end you will see a big deep gutter fish out into that on a high tide for salmon and tailor.
Dingostema Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Hello gang, I live in Coogee and regularly fish coogee and Maroubra with varying degrees of success. I have struck out my last four outings with barely a nibble in places where I was regularly catching at the beginning of the year. Anyways, fairly new to australia and always keen to hook up with raiders who fiah the eastern beaches, gets a bit dull sometimes fishing solo. Anyway, if youre up for it, PM me your email or numbers. Cheers, D
