Central Coast Fisherman Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 G'day Everyone, I've recently started to do a bit of land based game fishing on the Central Coast. I live near Terrigal so I have been just trying under the Skillion but havent caught anything yet. Can anyone let me in on some more LBG spots around this area. I'm not keen on dealing with the crowds at Avoca. I have heard of Winney Bay and google earthed it and it looks like a great spot. Has anyone fished Winney Bay before? Also, being new to LBG, can anyone tell me what type of fish I can expect to catch at each time of the year. I know when the kings will be around however I have heard that you can also catch yellow fin and blue fin tuna on the coast too at certain times of the year. Is there anyone that does LBG on the coast regularly? Cheers, Phil
bennoz Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 mate your in LBG heaven and hell. The central coast is one of the best LBG areas in the world. Places like snapper point and wybung head are renowned hotspots. Unfortunately they are also the most deadly ledges with a death count in the hundreds !!! Most of the top LBG spots involve deep water right to the edge of the rocks. It involves countless hours of sitting on the rocks waiting. Hauling gear and livies a long way to hard to get to locations . plenty on info on google or use the search function here
LBG. Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I've hooked plenty more BIG Kings at Terrigal than any other spot on the coast, but it's a %%%%% of a spot to land decent fish. Crowds are just as bad at winney now as they are Avoca, in fact, Terrigal is my little sanctuary on the coast. Not to many idiots and fishes as good/better than the others. North is good though in those places mentioned. If you don't like crowds, google Earth and get your hiking boots on. If you seriously want to find the perfect spot with no crowds, you have to do the leg work (hour+ walks). They do exist. I have 4 on the coast that I only tell to those I trust enough to fish with me. All found by solid research. Spend a weekend exploring without a rod.
Central Coast Fisherman Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks for the reply guys. LBG, where do you fish when you fish Terrigal? Do you fish under the Skillion or do you fish on the north side of the rock platform? Also, what bait do you use for the big kings? Yakkas, squid or bonito? Cheers, Phil
LBG. Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) I mix it up mate, and stay mobile. Early morns or arvo's on dusk. I only spin there too, especially in summer, as it's only a spinning ledge. Bait fisho's just get in the way and wreck the system. And honestly, the locals will let you know it!! White or gold Xraps and B52's have had the best hits for me, and black poppers. Edited November 3, 2011 by LBG.
