Hi Guys

This is the Water separating fuel filter on my boat, I notice from the clear see through bottom it has liquid in it.

Is that the water? There is a drain plug at the bottom.

So since it looks like it is full, can I drain out it completely out? or will it keep draining fuel with with it as well?

What should I do?

also how long before you need to replace this? Is it something you can do yourself or doing it when servicing time?

Thanks.

It will always have liquid in it. Either fuel or any water it has collected. If it's water you should drain it out until you reach the fuel layer. I would replace the filter once a year. You can keep and re-use the clear plastic part. If you install yourself make sure you gease the O-rings and hand tighten only. Going buy the rust on yours it is well due for replacement.

thanks for the tip billfisher, No point in draining it if I am gonna swap it out.

I will probably have to prime it alot to get fuel back into the system once i replace the filter right?

1 year only for the filter? :( I don't have to touch the etec thats 3 years :).

If there is any water I would drain it if you plan on goin out again. Once the bowl is full of water there is nothing to stop it going into your engine and this can cause major (read expensive problems).

I would be draining it to see how much water is in there, and then look for where the water came from. I had same prob and ended up taking the fuel tank out and draining it. ( my seperator looked just like yours )
