finin Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Gday all, well went for a fish today and thank god we did. Woke up to a breezeless morning, a glass harbour and not many boats around? Got out the heads and just went north a little to we hit 65m. Water temp was the same as it has been for a couple of weeks, just hovering between 18.3 and 19. Colour was a dirty olive green with a lot of muck in it. Explains the trevally that have been in plague proportions, but some nice fish up to 1.5kg amongst them and the odd couta around. Current was raging again even inside close 1.8kn, heard on the radio it was worse outside 2.0kn. Beautiful se swell up to 1.5m. Fishing started slow, but started well with two undersize reddies leading onto 2 keepers biggest 42. The only ones for the day . Wind had picked up a touch and drift got a bit quicker 1.5kn. Noticed a nice show on the sounder and waited.... both seans and my rod go off at the same time, feels heavier and up come to little nannys, but sean brings one up at 45. Very jealous i is, as nothing is as sweet as fresh redfish fillet! (now planning to pilfer his catch). Anyways head back up to where we were and start to drift back. Time for a coffee and some cake. So watching the world go by wondering what the poor people are up to look over the side of the boat and theres a bloody prawn of all things swimmin around couldnt stop laughing... actually looked pretty cool and very interesting! Have now changed the way i put prawns onto a hook. Sean grabs the livie net and the prawn in one hit then automatically whacks it onto a hook and down into the depths in one go! I blinked and missed it. Argh looks like i had no say in the matter. Soon as it hits the bottom (which was as long as it took me to work out what hed done ), rod bends and hes on...just shook my head in disbelief. Thought to myself, maybe a new breed of prawn... a suicide prawn!. Coupla minutes later after a little fight comes aboard a beaut blue spot flatty of 68. Now i headbut the side of the boat lamenting, while im greeted with howls of laughter. Cut the story short the wind picked up to at least 20kn so moved in a bit and ended up with a few mowies and two really nice tiger flatties both around 45. Called it quits as the Nor easter got stronger. All in all a good day, shame the drift was a bit fast.
MOE^MOE Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 i was out at the harbour and we got nothing but a tank full of yakkas and a nice size trevally
finin Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Yes there is bait everywhere, plenty of 30cm plus yakkas off the heads.
