Hey Secho,

You must have been virtually on Billy Heaton's hill....

That's a heck of a long way out.

Did you see the storm coming ?

Did you feel an urgent need to get the far kurnell outta there ?

How big was the boat you were in?

I too would have been doing a pope impression and kissed the earth at 10:00pm as well...

Glad to see you got back in OK...

You know, I wonder if the blackouts experienced on land affected the coastguard's ability to receive any radio distress calls ?

Did you radio in and report on your progress ?

First time we went to Browns we went in convoy and it was a good idea. A lot can go wrong out there so be prepared. Your boat size wise is borderline but on a good day its possible. Make sure you have enough fuel, epirb etc etc etc.

Bang on mate.. was just trolling back from Heatons when we saw it.. had some notice from Marine Rescue Syd as well.

We were in a 24foot cat - life jackets, personal EPIRBS + the 406 ready to go on the dash.. wasnt pretty - one lightning strike was within 50 foot of the boat.

We had constant contact with MRS the whole time and they were reporting on the additional storm cells coming through behind it.. they requested lat and long updates from all boats every 10 minutes

Hey Phil

See this link to one of my posts about fishing browns in a small boat (there is alot of general info in the thread but there is one bit about the steps I take might be interesting to you) not saying do (or don't) but just a few ideas. Maybe do a couple of runs to the fads or 12mile to feel it out. If you'd like more info let me know happy to chat.
