Stanleick Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I am keen to use poddy mullet for bait this summer in Sydney but having recently moved to the area I am not sure where and how to catch them in Sydney. Please can someone advise.
rjc123 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 To get the poddies then i would be heading up middle harbour and setting up the little bait traps with a bit of bread and coming back in an hour or so. Yakkas are probably a better option. They are much easier to find. All wharves and structure like the wedding cakes hold them. Just berley up and drop a bait jig down and you'll be good!
chewie Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 You can reliably find poddie mullet at points where storm water drains meet the harbour. Glebe park, rose bay, ruscutters bay, double bay to name a few. Also on the flats at clontarff. The trick is to burly up heavily with bread and catch them in the shallows. If i use a bait trap I put it so it's only an inch below the water so under 1 foot deep. If i see fish in deeper water, I'll use a handline and small pieces of bread. Generally over any of the harbour flats, if you set a burly bread trail floating mullet will turn up sooner or later, often good sized ones too.
pure spirit Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 if your working out of a small boat you might try back from the bridge at roseville
stevie g Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Narrabeen lakes have never failed me. Turn left off pittwater road and head along the wakehurst parkway. Go into the 1st carpark you see. There is a park there and anywhere along that shore will be all good.
