night_rider Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Fisherman Friends new to the block and thought I'd say Hi! After a great trawling experience for kingies up on the central coast with family on a solid boat, I've got the fishing bug again! Bugger! I left all my fishing stuff up the coast....... Straight off to ****** for some Jarvis Walker Cheapies... So i went down to Balmain yesterday, using prawns and a bit of squid; but nothing! The water was choppy and a storm brewing so fair enough. Im thinking of taking a squizz under the iron cove bridge tonight, Any suggestions for me while im a land warrior? Ill most likely invest in a boat late next year, but in the mean time i must make do.. Thanks Heaps Guys Mark
abecedarian Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 What type of gear do you have and are you targeting just kings or other fish? Around Gladesville there's supposedly some good Jew fishing, down Wharf Rd is supposed to be a good spot. But it can get busy so best to get there early. Hen and Chicken bay is good for bream and flatties. If you're after beaches I tend to prefer the northern beaches or south of Cronulla. Salmon and tailor are pretty common off these as well as others. As for rocks, Dee Why, Longreef, North Narrabeen and Whale beach are all good spots but can bite you on the arse if you're not careful and don't pay attention to the conditions.
night_rider Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Abecedarian, Thanks for the FYI! To be honest, untill i get the technique back; Flatties and bream should keep me sound, i wont try and Target Jews of Kings yet. I have a few decent spinning rigs up the coast which i must grab. The ones I have just bought are pretty light... Untill i start bringing in a few, and buying a bit more versatile gear and knowledge. I will most likely steer clear of rocks for the moment. I might check out Wharf Rd. Tonight or tomorow morning Thanks again champ!
abecedarian Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 If that's the case H and C bay is good. I wouldn't eat the fish there though. If you want a feed head out of Sydney or to narabeen lake.
sinbad66 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 narrabeen lake is still closed at the entrance id reckon an evening near the road bridge/caravan park could be quite good with all the dredging /sand removal they are doing and yes not a good idea eating fish up the river around balmain etc heavy metal suicide
kingwhiting Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Just to let you know, i fish balmain for a while never caught anything during tidal change. think its a bad sport. go under the harbour bridge. you catch everything there. including kings!
ghost88 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 La pa bare island is definitely the. Way to go. Catching big squids in the morning. Popping after sunrise for kings and sometimes amberjack comes too
night_rider Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Thanks guys! I have had some decent luck at Gladesville, bream, Whiting and a few flatties. Standard catch and release as after i read the NSW fisheries post about not eating anything west of the harbour bridge im a little scared to. Narabeen Lakes....I think i will check this place out over the weekend. Just bought another rod, shakespeare with a dohhh reel...Some guy at my local fish shop said it was a great deal for $89... I was going to invest in more but he said go with this, a little japanese line and i was away... 8ft rod. quite nice, havent used it yet. See how we go tonight and over the weekend.
