could anyone tell me is it illegle to have a vhf radio in your boat just for the use of monitoring things also do 4wd have to to have licences to use these radios and what about truck drivers do the rules apply to them as well thanks

You need a licence to operate a vhf radio. Truck drivers and 4wd mostly use uhf which you don't need a licence for.

You can have vhf in your boat and monitor it without a licence but need one to use it.

Not illegal to monitor weather channels, and also..i don't think anyone would ask any questions if you don't have a licence and use it in case of an emergency.. Although.. If you are concerned, get a licence.

4wd do use VHF's also...and need a licence to use one....

I was under the impression when I did my licence course with Stewie and the boys that if a VHF was in the boat you had to be licensed weather you used it or nor???..UHF on the other hand in trucks and 4wd's are quite fine even the new 80 ch ones

do the course it's not hard even i passed it's more about safety and exactly what to do if your in trouble or some one else is

have a VHF and i use it even thou i'm not ticketed to use it

been pulled up by my loacal guys a few time mainly for a bit of a chat and never once have they said anything

even my loacal marine rescue unit have told me they much prefure me to have one and use it then not to have one and need to use it

one day they will run a course and i will get it but most around here are still running a 27mhz and not much of a demand for the unit to run a course for the VHF yet

answer the question thou yes you can have one and monitor however technicaly you need to be ticketed to use one

ohh and they changed it from calling it a licence about ten years ago and now it is classed as a ticket
