At least it wasn't a donut

I spent Saturday on Burrill Lake with pauls soaking up the sun and having a good time fishing. It was two months in the planning but he kindly offered to take me out on his boat when I was next down that way, so decided to take him up on the offer.

Nothing like the anticipation of fishing to get you up in the morning and then do the 3 hr trip down to the lake. Well once we got out on the water, it looked pretty grim...never had such a weird experience - I cast the same prawn out for over an hour and not a bite. It was still intact and we'd already hit two spots in the back of the lake.

Paul was really apologetic that nothing was biting and with most of us lately, I thought I'd be going home with a donut next to my name. But Paul decided to take me to one of his favourite spots. We pull up and he tells me to cast straight out in front of me. I must have hit the fish on the head because in no time the baitrunner was making the noise we all love to hear, and I was on. A little time later we land a nice bream to take back to Sydney. From there it went all quiet for me, but Paul kept hooking it left, right and centre, but nothing was big enough to put in the bag with the other bream.

As I watched all the waterskiers go past and thought about my retirement in 50 years time, the baitrunner goes off again. This time a longer and faster run. Woken up from my daydreaming, I patiently bring in what I thought was a larger bream, until we get colour and it's reddish...paul ID's it as a snapper and I'm stoked! First snapper ever :yahoo:

We finish all the bait and paul tells me that the lake looks like its going to be a few more weeks till its pumping...either way, we both had fun and at least we got action on the line. Thanks to pauls for taking me out, it was really great to fish and chat. Look forward to doing it again soon mate! :biggrin2:

Here's a photo of the snapper - nothing to write home about but it was a keeper and tasted good for dinner tonight.
