Morgs84
Gday raiders, Hoping to get my father in law a parachute anchor for christmas He's already got a large sea anchor/drogue but mentioned he might want to get one. Anyone know much about them, i googled parachute anchors and they look pretty serious, It would be for a 18 ft boat so any thoughts or ideas would be a big help Cheers Morgs
Slink
Hi Morgs , Why would you need anything more than a big sea anchor on a boat that size ? The parachute anchors I though were for much bigger boats eg trawlers ,if you get into trouble they hold the boat into the swell and therefore much steadier and safer. Just curious , does he go really wide ? Cheers Morgs Brad
Onajewagain
Second that! A sea anchor should slow you by around 70% from the current speed. Any slower just chuck an anchor out! I've started using a sea anchor over the past 12 months and been perfect. I wouldn't want any slower or faster.
Morgs84
G'day guys, thanks for the replies, Yeah he uses the sea anchor and it works quite well( it is a large one) Brad he is going to be fishing wide, around the 150 - 300 m mark. so anchoring is not really an option. yeah the only pics i could find of the parachute anchors are for trawlers so wasnt really sure if you could use them . How big is the biggest sea anchor you can get? maybe there is a larger one than his available? just thinking what could slow him down the best, Thanks again Morgs
Little Hooker
Ive brought a few sea anchors in my life and have lost all of them because we forget to pull them up So our next plan is to buy a decent one from Boating camping fishing place which is $200 which is much larger and more expensive then ones we like to lose. So hopefully that $200 will make us more cautious in the future.
