Chasing first estuary perch

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've set myself the challenge of getting my first estuary perch this summer. It's not going to be easy. I'm probably only gonna get two shots at it so I've gotta make them count. I will be on one river near the Illawarra and one further down the coast.

Any tips on where to look for them at this time of year and around xmass and best ways to catch one would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing one of these beasts in the flesh (if I'm lucky enough). Also looking forward to the by catch I might encounter.

Hi Bikerdave

I was talking with a friend this week he use to fish moruya a lot and said there are some nice EP's in the river. It is a bit of a lottery with EP's they are here today and gone tomorrow . We would both suggest that you take a drive to Victoria before the School holidays or after .East gipsland rivers have good populations and it is just a matter of finding them when you do you usually get quite a few if you can keep them in a live well until you release them as there may be anything up to 20 on a snag and are usually a liked size .Creek mouths are always worth a try as well with bait or lure . My fishing mates and my self fish Victoria a lot more than we fish the south coast of NSW as it is only 3 to 4 hour drive from Canberra . it is fairly quiet after the holidays as well there are some nice wild bass in the snowy as well as all the river systems from there to Bem river worth a weeks fishing trip with a mate have a look on Global earth you will need a small tinny.
