Bleeding Green Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Hi, I'm looking for a good book on rigs, knot etc, something that will explain differant setups and what to use when targetting differant species. If anyone has one that they can recommend it'd be great to hear about it. Alternatively, if you know of a book that's not so great let me know as well. There are a few on online bookshops but I thought I'd ask for advice before I threw a dart and picked one. Cheers
Bleeding Green Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Is it possible that no one here reads books?
Geoff Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 There are a lot of books around that focus on specific topics , eg rigs , plastics . One of the best , all round books I've come across is the Anglers Omnibus. It's a bit old , printed in 1972 & as such was released prior to soft plastics & the latest gear technoligy but covers over 500 pages of good , basic information. Google Anglers Omnibus. They are still available. There is one I saw for $6.95. At that price you can't go wrong. Geoff
bennoz Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 theres so much free info about this on the net its not funny http://lmgtfy.com/?q=fishing+knots+and+rigs if its a hard copy your after - for a present maybe, geoff wilson knots and rigs book seems to pop up ALOT!
Bleeding Green Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks guys. It's not for a present, but for myself. It is a hard copy book that I am after. I'd prefer to have a book that I can pick up at anytime, without having my face planted on a computer screen (I do that for work). Also I can easily take a book anywhere. I saw Geoff Wilson's Complete Book of Fishing Knots & Rigs, which sounds good, but it's printed in 1998. Being over a decade old is the info a little behind in terms of technological refinement of certain products? Maybe I'm complicating things too much.
CarlRak Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Hey, I second Geoff. A few months ago I walked into a big second-hand book store in Newtown, Goulds, and picked up a bunch of angling titles. After browsing through them for a few weeks the Anglers Omnibus is the one I keep returning too. It's old but amazingly comprehensive and a pleasure to read. Provides heaps of info on all the basics of bait collection, habitat etc. The newest rigs/techniques and gear are all covered on this forum or the multitude of other websites around. Carl
brettmann86 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 The fishing bible by al mcglashan, not a bad book gIves you plenty of alternatives, retails around 40 bucks I think.. It's a handy thing that covers everything from lake to offshore fishing, from bait to plastics and everything in between
