mottyman
G'day Guys, The skipper Geoff and I braved the wind on Saturday morning and headed south from Bate Bay fishing under the cliffs off the RNP. The plan was to go down to Marly Wreck but we didn't get that far as it was just a tad uncomfortable with the wind. First baits down came back without rigs so we knew what was there strait away. Over the next hour with bite offs and dropped fish included we had 20 chinamen jackets in the box (included two big slimies) so decided to get out of the wind and head back. We trolled slowly under the cliffs and I came up trumps with this King. He went about 57cm and took a 12g Spanyid Maniac. He was sensational fun on a 4-7kg Crystal Blue Tip rod running strait to the bottom first time to the boat and trying to rub me off. He swam away nice and healthy and gave me a splash in the face for my trouble... We put the lures out again and trolled around the bommie two more times but didn't hook up again so headed into the river. The wind dropped dramatically by this stage so threw some pastics around Yowie Bay for not much eventually dropping the pick and burleying for... you guessed it, more bloody jackets. The six spined type this time. Figuring 20 was plenty we sent them back. All in all a great day out and we were very please to make the aquaintance of two fisheries officers back at the ramp who checked over our catch and made sure our licences were up to date. Good to see them out. Cheers,
mottyman
Yeah mate, we had an absolute ball and the jackets cooked up beautfully putting me in the good books with the family and my wife's grandmother.... If I keep this up I'll be allowed out to play a lot more...
robthefisherman
Yeah we had a similar episode Sunday morning just south of the bombie minus the king although the live frigate I had out was hammered by something but busted me of on the outboard so maybe there are still a few of them around. Those jackets were unbelievable first time ever I actually got sick of catching fish mind you the bite offs become a pain in the ass. Good going looks like thats the place if you want a feed of jackets at the moment

mottyman
Hi Rob, The jackets are thick as out there at present and going nuts. Once you hooked one the others were chasing him around pecking and biting. Some of the smaller ones had quite noticable bite marks out of them. Hi Kikila, yeah mate, we were out in Geoff's Webster which handled the conditions with ease. It's not mine so I don't have bragging rights, I'll leave that to the skipper if he's on-line I reckon any King is a good King mate so I was stoked with this one... Thanks again, we had a ball. Cheers David.
