Sydney Harbour on Sunday

Hi All,

First post, but I've been reading on and off for a little while since my interest in fishing came back and bit me recently. It bit hard enough for me to buy a boat again, and I got a chance to use it on Sunday out in the Harbour.

Due to other commitments, I didn't get on the water till 11am, which I didn't really mind being that it gave me 3 hours before the top of the tide. It was really nice to be launching at a familiar ramp, though it seems that the facilities at Roseville have improved since I was there last. It was only the second time I've put this boat in the water, so I'm still learning it's idiosyncrasies, but it's near enough for the moment.

I'd forgotten how bumpy it gets out there in a NorEaster, and the reflective waves bouncing off the cliffs made for a bumpy ride. The boat handled it with aplomb - much better than the little tinny I had years ago!

We anchored up, set up the berley trail and started fishing. Within 2 minutes, the first fish was boated and went straight into the slurry for dinner. Over the next 90 minutes, I landed 5 good bream, and released about another dozen legal bream and a couple of silver trevally. For each legal sized fish, I caught about 2 or 3 undersized fish which of course I released. I had enough for dinner for the family so was fishing for fun.

Incidentally, all the bream looked to be in superb condition. Nice and fat, and put up a great fight.

I had a "big bait" under the boat as well in case a kingy came by, but a little pinky munched the squid to pieces. Needless to say, no kingy.

We changed spots to get out of the washing machine conditions as my girlfriend was feeling very average, and didn't get a touch over at Balmoral. It was a shame to leave such a hot bite, but we do what we have to for love!

I'll be back there over the Christmas break. That lot of fish lasted 1 night in my household, and the order has gone in for more :-)

Cheers,

Leo
