LeoB
G'day If you can remove it, a mate of mine just took it to his mechanic, and it cost bigger all coz it was an easy job (mates rates though). Might be worth asking? Cheers Leo
oz_brett
Whats in the fuel tank for it to need cleaning out? Would Petrol clean it? if not what do the machanics use? I would be trying a decent auto parts stores and asking them what products would clean it. with 1 person each end you should be able to swish it around enough for a good rinse. richard_pdc
Hi bud Option 1 Very easy to do your self just drain all the fuel out put a litre of metho in the tank swirl it around as hard as you can then tip it out put the tank in a warm area but not directly in the sun the metho will evaporate then put 500ml of clean fuel in twirl it around and pore it back in to a clean container have a look at the fuel if it has no rubbish in it you are done . option 2 Go to super cheap and you can get a additive that you put in the tank all you need to do is fill the tank to top and add it breaks down any water or small particles in the tank. Recommend option one very safe and easy to do only takes one hour Regards Ritchie
Plumb
I Did mine a few mths ago after some issues with the motor running, spoke to my car mechanic who said the best thing to clean a petrol tank out with was petrol, I removed it, and filled it with 2-3L a few times, worked a treat and only took a few hrs. Guest Aussie007
i would use a few litres of metho as mentioned put the cap on the tank shake it around it will clean the tank metho i think also disperses water in the tank as well than use a hand syphon pump from super cheap auto to suck it all out let the tank sit to dry and should be good to go while your at it clean out the fuel delivery hose going from the tank to the engine and u might as well clean the carbies if not EFI to make sure the whole system is clean Edited January 3, 2012 by gazza
herdsman
thanks lads for all the replys, had a go at cleaning it out myself, putting in petrol swirling it around and emptying it out, done this for about an hour or so,but keep getting little particles coming out, looks like rust, but aliminium should,nt rust, then a mate came round and was having a look and we found a big area thats pitted quite badly,so it looks like a new tank, thats all i need, after just spending $1100 bucks on the engine. does anybody know where i can get a tank made? aliminium or plastic, they have to be custom made to fit under the floor. Cheers lads any help gratfully appreciated.
