Hey raiders,

Decided to finally take the advice of my mates and switch to soft plastics. Bought a few of packets of gulps; Nuclear Chicken 4" Shads, Nuclear Chicken 2" Shrimps, Pumpkin Seed 2" Shrimps

and Lime Tiger 4" Shads. Rocked up at the national park and parked near the Field of Mars near Buffalo park. Short walk down to the spot and rigged up. First chucked on the NC shrimps and

was hoping for a flatty or whiting, after about 20 mins of fishing, we managed a flatty of roughly 30cm's, chucked him back and fished for another 30 mins before we had to head off. In

that 30 minutes we just amused ourselfs catching little puffers on lures ( more fun than you would think :P ). Anyway here is a pic of the sun heading down just around the corner from

where we were and a pic of the flattie is soon to come since my mate has it.

Happy fishing

Nice one mate that's a regular spot of mine I grew up in East Ryde and have fished there for years. Fishes best down there on a falling tide and don't be afraid to use big SP's as there are some BIG fish down there, i got smoked by one about a month ago that i thought was a ray at first glance only to have it go ballistic and run into the deep and bust my 6lb leader :ranting2: , i now use 10-12 lb just in case. There have also been jewies caught on SP's down there in the deeper water on dusk so it can be worth a cast and slow retrieve just in case.

Hi Ben,

I am a North Ryde boy and have been fishing the LCR for the last 35 odd years (land based). On Pitwater Rd, near the Rene St roundabout, there is a walking which leads to Sugarloaf Point. In daylight, soft plastics work well but I have caught the majority of my large flatties on whitebait. Fish really light, say 8-10lb and use a long shanked hook..you should have success.
