Botany bay

Hi raiders,

I have been doing a little fishing in botany bay with not a great deal of luck, as I normally fish the harbour. I'm keen on fishing for some kings but not real sure on where to get some live yakkas or squid from. I know bait grounds can be sacred but a general directions would be really appreciated.

I'd be glad to share some info with anyone keen on fishing the harbour. I did fish botany on 1st and 2nd and managed a few bream, flathead and trevally as well as a nice salmon on my light bream outfit, that was exciting.

I fished the harbour on Wednesday conditions where perfect, a slight northerly breeze, caught my dozen yakkas and tried for a king with no takers. While fishing sow and pigs had a livey out, but naturally my bream outfit with 8lb mono and a fresh hawks bury prawn was smashed by what I'm pretty sure was a healthy king. As you can imagine fight lasted all of about a minute then bye bye. All well was fun while it lasted. That was all the action that day had to leave early had a few crook passengers lol, lucky we did though cause that southerly sure did have some sting in it.

Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tight lines to all

Cheers

Daniel

G'Day Dan,

If it's yakkas you are after in the bay head around Molli Point and follow the break wall all the way down to the end which is Yarra Bay. Just off the wall, about 100 or so meters along the shore line, you will see a rocky outcrop. Anchor about 20-30m off this in about 3m of water over a sandy patch, burley up and there are yakka's galore (when the little sweep down infest the place first).

Hope that helps.

Hi gav,

Thanks for the info. I did try there last week and managed 10 or so yakkas. They where perfect size too. I tried just outside north head slow troll with no luck. Tried one under a float and one in the bottom around the end of moli zero there too. Tried a little bream and flathead fishing and managed only one keeper flathead. There was a heap of small snapper stealing our baits which is good to see but can get frustrating. Conditions where perfect, a slight breeze, overcast and no fish. Is anyone else finding this or is it just me, and where are the kings?

Anyway thanks for the info hope you have better luck.

Cheers

Daniel

When fishing botany just cruise around and look for schools on your sounder generally it will be yakkas just drop down a live bait jig , depending on what depth the school is swimming put the right size sinker on the bottom .. Who knows might even get a few slimys even better for kingys .. Last time afew weeks back seen some schools of yakkas around the drums in botany .. Good luck next time ...
