Hey guys went to the shire to do some light fishing. Saw some fishes splashing in the water late afternoon since there was not much luck with breams and stuff. Tried out my trusty pencil and BANG! got a big one on the run. felt really heavy and gave a good first run and let it run for awhile. started going slow after a few just when i was winding it let off another run towards the beams.it gave a good fight and was so heavy for my light equipment that i had to pull the line by hand and cut myself a bit it was worth it though she was a beauty! it was dead before i could lift it up with the big fight so i kept it. its around 60cm caught on 8lb braid and 16lb fc.

Its the first catch of the year. It made my day!

Bonnies are always big, there's just no plagues of little lollipops so far this year. I've only had them from 60-80cm this season, with only 1 under 40cm.

Bit bloody annoying actually, because they're hitting baits and poppers for kings, but they're too big to sned out live for big kings and stickface. :ranting2:

Always great fun on lite gear! Grats and hope many more to come through out the year!

Definately will have more reports to come!

The Bonito are big this year. I got an OS model on a live yacka intended for a king at Tuggerah Reef before Xmas and the fish being caught at Moon Island are in the larger class as well.

I havnt seen a bonito that big yet. I guess you guys catch the big fishes!

Nice bonito !

Did you eat it?

Some people only use them for bait but I reckon they taste pretty good. Although, it does help if they are very fresh, have been bled and are cooked a bit like a beef steak. That is, seared on the outside and pink in the middle. My family doesn't like them! Oh well, more for me!!

I suspect they would be good done with a Japanese type recipe too.

Reeltired.

I tried bonito as bait. But I had no luck with them. They are more for the use of burleying. As for eating, in the start of the summer I eat a bit, then but the end of it, I am sick of bonitos.

I bet they are good japanese dishes!

Bonito sashimi if bled straight away, and eaten fresh is as good as it gets! You can pay top $$$ for this in Jap restaurants these days. I have them with a bit of soy and wasabi and even my kids (10 and 14yrs)scoff it down.

Grilled on the BBQ is also top notch if fresh.
