CarlRak
Raiders, Last week I asked for some help on improving my hook-up rate when using SPs over the flats. The advice I got was useful and informative so come Saturday afternoon I thought I better put it into practice. I was on the Central Coast visiting friends so I drove to Ettalong to have a flick on the rising tide. To cover the ground and notionally entice a few larger specimens I tied on a ¼ ounce 3/0 head and attached a 100mm wriggler in wasabi colour. Swordy had advised “strike at every little tap”, I was wandering, trance-like into the sunset repeating the mantra. A little flattie here, a little flattie there. I wanted a big flattie. I climbed up a little pile of rocks and spied a bath-tub size hole in the weed beds and fired off a cast. Tap, tap, I wasn’t waiting. I struck and the fish ran sideways fast. I thought finally I’ve got a decent one. A short struggle later I had a 40cm Blackfish at the shoreline. To say I, and the bloke a little down the beach, were shocked is an understatement. Almost novelty catch, especially on the gear I was using, but I’ll take it. Carl
