pup1917
Hallo everybody, I'm new to this forum and relatively new to fishing for luderick. Here goes with my "report". Fished Yena today 9.30-11.15. High tide was abt 9.40. Not much swell. Used fixed float fished at 3 mts or so, 8lb mainline, 6lb trace. size 8 hook, cabbage for bait. Much to my supprise I picked up 2 fish, 1 at aprox 10.00, the other at 10.15. Abt 22-23 cms repectively. Beautiful plump little fish in excellent condition, they went back. Good job they were small, I got into an awful mess with the alvey - winding line 'round the handles ! There were a few people abt but nobody was catching. Spoke to some young blokes fishing for pigs (nothing doing) who said they had spearfished there over the w/end and seen a lot of luderick. Back there tomorrow for a longer session - weather permitting. Hope this is of some use, Im pretty inexperienced, and if I can catch... Thanks for all the tips - they helped reignite my interest. Guest hawkesbass
to the site blackfish can be timid and cautious on bright days and be a challenge to catch to get two fish is a good effort using burley helps.to make the burley chop up little bits of caggage/weed and mix into some wet sand and remember to put out little bits of burley every 5-10 mins to keep them in your area just dont put too much out as it will feed them you want them to hit your bait hope this helps

Didn't get back to Yena on the 10th, but went back for a session today (9.45-12.30). Bottom of the tide this time. Picked up 3 Blackfish - biggest was abt 30cms. All returned. Gee, they went hard. Missed a couple of bites and bumped a fish at my feet.I see what you mean by "timid and cautious" - what with the chop and slop it was difficult to see bites, I'm certain I missed more than I saw. Great fun, hope to get back there tomorrow. Cheers
luderick -angler
Were you fishing Big or Little Yena? I know tghe area well and a word of warning watch the swell and bommie out the front the waves can curl across Big Yena in a nasty fashion I have seen a lot of guys banged up there and its not a pretty place to get knocked over worse still if you go in theres no where to come out. Little Yena is the safer option on the making tide in a light southerly swell up to 1.5 metres alternately take the safe option and head to the holes the big long fingers below the steps and fish the last hole behinfd greeny on a making tide its off the water nice and flat and has plenty of room for a wave to disperse behind you fishes best in the cooler months wit ha sout hto south east swell of about a metre to one and half metres. By the way these are my old stomping grounds so i know them very well good to hear you got into a few keep at it. I'll adda detaileddescription in the safe rock fishing initiative soon.
