benz2538
Hi could anyone please tell me the ideal length of 20lb flurocarbon to be tied to braid for estuary fishing around Tin Can Bay. We are new to the area and have to learn about using softbaits. Thanks
benz2538
To be safe, i'de say a rod length and a half, if you're new then you'll be wanting to be testing new jig head weight and so on, so this will give you a bit of flexibility, however, if the water's really clear, then I go 2 rod lengths because the fish become a bit spooked by leader Hi and thanks squidward. that makes good sense. Tight lines.
Bleeding Green
Is it better to use a swivel or tie the leader directly to the braid? I used a swivel, but becuase of the length of my leader (just over a rod length) and needing to keep the swivel out of the eyelets I find it difficult to cast. I'm not sure if it's the correct way, but I tie using a double uni knot. So you have the main and leader running parallel to each other, say about 15-20cm. Then you tie a uni knot on 1 end, and another uni on the other. Then you pull the main lines together and the 2 knots slide toward eachother locking up, then I tie 1 more knot with the excess line and cut the excess off. It does create a little ball, but I'm still able to cast

ghost88
I would go no more than a rod length because if you have any fc on a spool that has braid, the fc might not spool on properly. As for tying a swivel or not. What type of fishing are you doing?
Morgs84
Hey mate , If your using soft plastics give the doyble uni knot a go , easy to start off with, Another good knot is the allbright not. Theres a heap of different ones out there . Just make sure tyey are nice and neat If your braid to leader knot isnt neat or trimmed you can sometimes have dramas with it going through your guides poorly. Itll cut down your casting distance a bit Sqidwards length of leader is pretty spot on however be carfull when your length of leader is so long that the knot winds onto your spool before you cast, if the knots untidy it Can tear off braid when you cast giving you a bad tangle Thats what happened to me anyway Cheers Morgs
cheap charlie
I use an improved albright knot (google it). I use to use a double imo but found it to be to bulky and useless in relation to going through guided. I then used an albright knot and I was not impressed with the knot. strength with the 6lb braid and 6lb leader I was using. I then moved onto an improved albright and have not looked back since.
