Well its been a year since I returned from Aeoteroa and a anniversary of many sorts so it was this weekend I dedicated to fishing firstly an awesome session in the trout with Caddis then an awesome session on the luderick with Scrubby (also our one year of being really good fishing buddies!) Well I said to him last week they'll be on in the harbour we had not fished it for at least 8 weeks getting all our luderick in the bay as the harbour had shut right down! Well it was a year ago i ventured to Five Dock after 4 years away from the place and got 40 odd fish well 12 months to the day we were back (not at Five Dock) Paul arrived and a breakfeast of bubble and squek and fresh brewed coffe was prepared, consumed with vigour gear loaded and we were off this trip was a bit further towards the bridge around Balmain was our destination a wharf was found (with shelter) and well it was not promising first the rain then the run off but persistance pays and well once the tide made the fish came on we ended up wit h16 in the bag releasing many more mid water at the net and some from the deck! Well for the last fortnight we have bagged approx 40 fish released just a many and they are back big time. A few side notes in the last 12 months I have donutted once, many good laughs, good natured ribbing and insults hurled both ways between Scrubby and myself, I have met and fished with a handful of awesome raiders thank you Caddis, Irongustavius, Flattiemad, Bustoff, Swordfisherman, Dave88 and most of all Scrubby who has become a good friend and constant partner in the dark arts and also an addicted collector of blckfish rods and centrepins!

Well there was a lack of picks due to the hot action but heres my 46cm fish taken early in the session.

Cheers

Sure do eat them and asII ahve said before where does a fish draw the line whos to say a abream caught at clifton Gardens has not been milling around Homebush Bay for 3 weeks? I eat the recommended amount and thats that you either do that or don't eat fish at all out of Sydney Harbour!

Good session, blokes. Was there a pic of the 46cm fish? That is a big fella. A lot of the fish I got yesterday were very silver in colour and hanging over the sand. I am spoilt by fishing in very clean, clear water and pristine surroundings. Would have to mentally prepare myself to fish off a wharf upstream of Rose Bay. :1yikes::biggrin2: Good bag, lots of fun.

Hi Royce,

Great report as usual. I am a relatively newbie to blackfishing. I only fish for them in the harbour. I had some fun with them up September-October. I was under the impression they disappeared from the harbour after Octoberish, so I have given up after a doghnut on my last session.

Reading your report gives me high hopes for some more black fishing now. I was using cabbage weed from ocean rocks as I found it hard to find any stringy weed on westetrn side of Harbour bridge. What type of weed do you find most successful? And do you think blackfish will remain in harbour for a while now?

Cheers Larry

Well apparently I have used my max global upload for images so cn't load a pic help please admin!!!!

Larry,

I took all my fish on cabbage and Paul took 70% of his on cabbage he took 3 smaller ones on some weed I got as for them staying in the harbour they should hang about for a while now this time last year they came on big time and wer firing right up till June July whe nthey got lean and I hit the rivers then they returned late August and buggered off in October when I hit the bay, well 12 months later! My tip is start west of the bridge look for a good kelp bed and drop off your sucess will be dependant on the chosen spot and fishing the right tide, if you PM me a few spots your looking at I can give you the right tides to fish, I have been fishing the walls and wharfs of east Balmain on the last of the run in then the out for my fish.

Cheers

Nice one Royce.

The fish from across the ditch must be thanking their stars that you came back to Aus. You've done quite a bit in a year and I'm sure as your foot finishes its mending you'll be nailing them even more regularly than you are now.

And speaking of - I'm back in Sydney and looking for a fish within a few weeks. Been doing well in the salt but haven't had a fish on fly for what seems a lifetime. We have to hook something up.

Angus.
