Bardy
With the introduction of the new laws to ban unleaded fuel in NSW from June 2012, I would like to know what is the best option regarding fule for an ETEC ?... I know that E10 is NOT recommended, so does that mean I should use Premium Unleaded, something like VORTEX 95 or even 98 RON ? What to do ? Catchin Jack
They are stopping 91RON fuel but 95RON and 98RON will still be sold.

Pb Hi, an Evinrude is designed to happily run on E10 but the boats fuel system might not be so that is the problem as with all brands and some brands do not even say you can run on E10 depending on the year model-all E-TEC have been designed to run on E10. Would I use it in my boat with my E-TEC on the back, NO because ethanol is a water attractent and on a boat that is the last thing you want and E10 has a very short shelf life and most boats do not get used daily. There is alot of info if you go searching for this topic and it affects all outboards, but your engine can run on it. Long story, short just use high octane if you can not get standard unleaded. Cheers, Huey.
Bardy
Thanx Leo Yep...it is only 91RON....So what would be the preferred option, 95RON or 98RON ? Is there a difference as far as burn temp is concerned, and how does it affect an ETEC ? Does an ETEC need to be tuned differently ? I just don't know the answers and would like to make sure I am treating her right Cheers Pb They are stopping 91RON fuel but 95RON and 98RON will still be sold. Zdenk01
I had trouble locating 91 without driving around, So I sent an email to the Manufacture for my 2003 YAMAHA. They recommended 95. cheers zed

Catchin Jack
As what Huett Marine said, he's one that knows the Etecs well and knows what's best for them.
a boat
Hi Paul, your size engine does not have knock sensor like the larger ones so use the 95RON from a servo that gets alot of traffic. If you have an underfloor fuel tank I do hope you have a water seperating fuel filter and replace the element yearly-this is good preventative maitainance no matter what brand of outboard someone is using. pnp005
Guys..noticed recently that even in the 95 octane some sites are adding 10% Ethanol, how do we get away from this problem????
cheap charlie
Morton, You are right that some manufactures do add ethanol to their premium fuels. If this is the case, it is always stated on the bowser in the tittle of the fuel. Another issue to be aware of is United petroleum E10 is a 95ron fuel and states 95 on the bowser tittle. At the end of the day you need to be purchasing a Premium Unleaded fuel with no Added ethanol. Perhaps to simplify this issue for those whom are unsure, we can make a list of suitable fuels from different petrol companies. EG: caltex's vortex , Shell - vpower etc? NickF
Just some updates on this. According to the SMH there are petitions at around 1200 service stations around the state. They need 10,000 signatures to force a debate over the issue in Parliament (They already have 6,000 signatures) and hopefully stop the mandatory use of Ethanol in unleaded fuel. Please sign the petition if you see it. There is also a Facebook group started called "STOP Mandatory Ethanol Blended Fuel in NSW" so maybe join that group and help give voice to the issue. The more noise we make the better chance we have of getting this reversed.
daniel944
Could be wrong, but I seem to recal as part of the legeslation introduced 1/7/2011 that ethanol content in petrol only had to be declared if the content was greater than 10%
