niclebum
Hi Raiders, I'm struggling to get blackfish at the moment and am thinking its how I'm burleying... I've tried twice now where 'swordfisherman' has got numerous blackies at iron cove with not even some interest! I'd just like to know the right type of burley technique to use. I read of someone blending the cabbage or something. I know a place where I can get lots of cabbage so that's no problem and I've got a local spot that I can get local weed from. niclebum
The best option is to get some decent sand, Go to the foreshores at Botany Bay and get the white sand along the beach as this holds the burley better than the corse sand found in the harbour. Mix plenty of weed and make it pretty wet but not so wet that it cant be made into a ball to throw. If mixing cabbage as well make sure it is cut up really fine as you dont want the blackfish to eat your burley and not your bait. Burley all the time and that could mean two 25 ltre bucket fulls and burley even when the fish are on the bite. I will take you too Drummoyne soon and show you how we do it and hopefully you will get some regular captures. Regards Stewy Thanks very much Stewy for all your info and tips… I love reading your posts about your blackfishing at sessions Thanks again Nick p.s just realised ive written balckies
luderick -angler
Nick, there as many opionions on blackfishing as the proverbial!!!!! As for burley I never go through more than a 15 litre bucket in a session its how rich you make it, if yout putting a teaspoon to every litre in a 15 litre bucket yes two 15 litre buckets will be needed to keep the fish around I make mine rich half a bucket of weed/cabbage to sand cut it too fine the fish dont see it I like to beable to see the weed floating down I rough chop mine wit ha knife or better still I scrape up the real short cabbage off the ocean rocks at the beach its the perfect stuff. I find if they are thick in big schools and holding and don't need alot of encouragement then a handfull sizre ball of burley every 10 mins is enough if they ar esporadic nd travellers like they are at the moment you may need a bit more to keep them around if they show up, I also tend t oburley bit heavier in real deep water ie where I'm fishing 20 plus feet deep. I'm out and about next sunday in the Harbour so feel free o shoot me a PM and come down for a look. I learnt all this from Dad and his blackfishing mates and the yhave forgeotten more bout Sydney blackfish than I'll ever know, so happy to share what I have been taught. Royce. Thanks Royce, i see your point about making the burley more concentrated. Im now thinking that burleying has been my main problem with blackfishing in the past so i might give it a go tomorrow and see if things change. Thanks Nick

Thanks Nick Drift lso plays an important part make sure you have a few drifts t osee how fast and which way your float moves then burley accordingly, I have sena lot of newcomers send the fish half way down the harbour away from them cause of where they put the burley water depth and sink rates also play a big role in how you burley very much like reading seam lines and micro currents for trout in rivers when nymphing!
