Howdoweplaythis
Went for a quick session at Narrabeen lake around 5pm today to try out the 3' gulp minnows i've been hearing so much about. I'm fairly new to plastics so i'm still adding to my arsenal. Started off at the caravan park for a missed hookup. Switched to vibes and a gave the popper a go too for nada. (still yet to catch something on a popper). The wind picked up so i moved to woolies bridge. Rocked up at woolies bridge and waded out in front of the bridge on the corner closest to woolies. I flicked the plastics for a few minutes and something caught the corner of my eye on my right. The current was moving irregularly. I thought nothing of it, thinking it was just something lodged in the weeds. It happened again about 30 seconds later and this time i saw a stingray wing and tail come out of the water. Jumped out of the water quick smart. The thing was huge. Must have been a metre across at least. It was just larking around in about 20cm of water. Such an amazing creature. By the time i got my phone for a snap, it was gone. Scared the pants off me though. Crawled under the bridge to the other side. There were a group of youngsters around my age having a drink and a fish there. I thought they were alright until one of the guys started yelling profanity and spitting at pedestrians on the bridge. Quite a disappointing thing to watch. Flicked my minnow here for about 20 minutes for 2 undersized flatties. Decided to cross the bridge to the north side. Flicked here for another undersized flattie first up. Then something hit the lure and my drag sang. Played it up to the shallows and it turned out to be a nice 55cm specimen. Tied with my previous flathead pb. I'm missing a lot of hookups though. In my [limited] experience, flicking the plastic has been enough to set the hook on any fish that have eaten it since the last flick, especially for trebles on vibes. This doesnt seem to be working very well anymore and i missed about half the fish that grabbed the plastic today. I'd feel the fish for about 3 seconds, and then nothing. Ah well, i've still got a lot to learn. Still happy with my catch though. Having flathead fish and chips tomorrow. Have a good one
night_rider
Nice catch matey! I think i saw the say ray floating around when i was there yesterday aswell. Massive thing. I've been trying to crank through on the SP's but i keep making the mistake of taking bait aswell, so when i get bored/fed up i change to bait and renders the SP's pointless. Tight Lines.
