Formosan
Any ideas why it is doing this? Appreciate the help and advice.
Drummo
Had the same problem after fitting a stainless prop to my Suzuki 80. Was told this was common due to the extra weight.I would like to know if this is true

a boat
Hi, if when changing gears it will be out of adjust and all engines with control cables need to be adjusted correctly for them to fully engage and disengage the gears. Also ALL gearboxes have no clutch and it is dog on dog so if you engage gears slowly they do not like that and I have seen some people do big damage to gears by changing gears slowly. Cheers, Huey. Formosan
Thanks Huey. Thank goodness we have you on the forum. Sounds like it is normal then or needing a minor adjustment.. as I always engage reverse gear very slowly and i get the chatters. If I do it faster it is not an issue. a boat
Hi, no problem and as I said all gearboxes are basically the same and changing gears slowly will cause this noise and you want to quickly change gears-do not muck around because the grinding you are hearing is the teeth of the gears and clutch dog trying to mesh and over time this will lead to failures. This is of course assuming the control cables have been adjusted right. Cheers, Huey.
