niclebum
Gave Howley Park a go with my mate Jack (BREAM boy) for quite a few hours in the hot weather. Started off by burleying hard with cabbage and sand and lots of it! We ended up using bits of cabbage as bait aswell as there wasnt and decent weed at the spot.. A couple of minutes in and my float went down and brought up a small blackie. Much later on we were still persisting and then Jacks went down and fast, lifted the rod tip up and with some luck on his side managed to land a 40cm blackfish on 6lb leader which broke when it was up. Couple of hours later and mine goes down and snap everything is gone with my good float drifting away all that complicated rig for nothing and with further inspection i figured it was my knot.. Im an idiot i tied braid straight to a swivel thinking itll be right but no im never taking a risk again! Anyway good day out but really for about 6hrs of persistence in 30 degree heat for 2 blackies i was quite disappointed just need to find out how to maximise my catch rate! Thanks Parraman

luderick -angler
Give the braid away and use Dango wax by line sytems! It seems the school that came inside 3 or 4 weeks ago has dispersed they wer eall spawners too! End of February should see them in numbers even off the rocks they are hit and miss, to show how out of whack they are the ywere gettingthem on the wall at South West Rocks around Xmas and tht is very out of season normally SW Rocks is a April to August/September proposition! Nice work and persistence does pay its a waiting game blackfishing Edited January 30, 2012 by luderick -angler
niclebum
1. Thanks Stewy, it's great fun to catch blackfish as they fight and fight and never give up which is what makes fishing for them so fun as its a challenge 2. Good to hear as I never knew the proper not to tie braid directly to something, thanks

luderick -angler
Mate as Isaid small baitrunner is good but any smooth running BB spin reel in a 2500 will do the trick it needs to be able to take about 150m of mono flaot line. Oh and if yo uwant to see what a gnarled old 70's style luderick fisherman looks like come visit me next sunday at my chosen haunt! swano
Dont feel too bad mate, had the same sort of result at that spot a couple of days earlier. Theres not too much weed around anywhere at the moment. Some great advice has been posted, follow that and your sure to improve your catch rate.
