PowerFisher
Ive been for years fishing Parra river and decided last couple of weeks to give georges river a try, went a couple of land based trips to Illawong near the old boat ramp using chicken breast as bait, using a 10 lb leader as some rocks around for bream on my first trip 2 weeks ago, I usually leave drag not to tight for the bream to have a run with the bait and my drag goes off i run to the rod and start reeling and tighten drag within around 10 seconds i got busted off. Went a couple of days later and try again with 15 lb leader threw in same place which is around 1-2 meters deep and with in seconds had a long run and drag screaming within same amount time the line around the hook gets cut so realised its a toothy critter so iam thinking ive never had this happen with me on a large bream so iam thinking its a tailor but the pulling power of this fish would of have to meant a very large tailor and wasent to sure if they were around that area in that size. I tried again and within 5 mins same thing happened again i was started to get frustrated and really know what it is. Went back yesterday with a heavier setup braid line and real heavy leader, I used burley and threw in the bait in around the same area which was only only 2 meters from the ledge away you wouldnt belive my rod buckles over and i just thought this fish really hard i knew its the same kind of fish giving me the trouble after around 1 minute not giving the fish any space to run off with locked drag i reef it in and to my suprise it was one of the largest eels i have caught it would of been around a meter in length very very thick i was disapointed to see it as was hoping something else, so after three trips at least i figured out what it was and iam sure there is many there hanging around after burley and are resident there. next half an hr on a floaty i caught some bream one of them had a large chunk taken off his back and was supprised he was still alive. Called it a day after.
night_rider
Awesome persistence! Great story to say you finally caught the bugger I was down at Abbotsford yesterday arvo, fishing a little beach next to the wharf. Had the same thing happen, something kept grabbing my chicken gut, screeming my drag and snapping my leader once i tightened the drag, Unfortunately i didn't get the joy of reeling it in....
