A few days ago, me, my dad, the mrs, and my son went up to newcastles Anna bay.

It was a split decision in the morning where my dad came up to my room to check up on me the mrs and my son, then i said, LETS GO FISHING!. where? my dad asks, LETS BRING THE 4X4 TO NEWCASTLE. we used to head down there many time when i was younger so havn't been there for a while and ive never fished there before. So we packed up our rods and headed off.

God blessed me with a beautiful son because the whole 3 hours we drove to Newcastle he slept the whole way. (he is 6 months old). we got down there at around 1pm, and headed onto the beach with our trusty Toyota surf hilux which my dad gave me. As i was looking around anna bay has really just gotten more beaten up since we last went there. the dunes are smaller, they are building some stupid resort infront of the beach, and the big sand dunes were fenced off. Great. We headed around 2 km down the beach, and looked for a decent gutter to throw the line in. My girlfriend spots a nice gutter while she was jsut looking out the window, while i was looking like an idiot with my head sticking out and standing out the sun roof looking for a gutter. We parked infront of it and began to rig up. Then and there was when i realised i forgot to bring my metal lures i wanted to try out. sigh* My girlfriend just laughs at me, and calls me an idiot.

I used a running ball sinker rig with a size 1 hook and a 50 cm 30 lb leader on 2 beach rods, and on the 3rd i put a patternoster rig with a ganged pillie on size 0/2 hooks.

First rod i pulled in around 15 mins had some weight on it and first fish is on a 32 cm yellowfin bream. I show my gf and she calls me an idiot because i didnt tell her i had something on so she could film it. Meh it didnt put up a fight anyways. re-baited and in it goes again. another hour or so pass. my dad reels in his rod and finds a decent 40 cm flattie on it. at first glance i was amazed at how light it was because i usually cath them harbour flatties which are very dark. Shows how much influence the environment has on the fish.

While watching the waves my dad realises the fish are just 20 m infront of us riding the waves. spewing i didnt bring the metal lures. some of the fish were even jumping in the air. amazing to just sit back and watch. they looked like some salmon or taylor. Anyways, i find one of my rods have fallen over so i run over and stand it back up, i reel it a few times, and it has abit of weight on it.i start reeling it again and find a decen 59 cm salmon on it. i was very surprised as the salmon did not put up a fight which i would like to have happened.

At the end of the day 3 fish. Its good to be up at newcastle after a long time. Were even planning to stay there afew nights. Son and mrs had a swim, and all in all we all had fun. This is a good days fishing, well for me anyways.:)
