sean221
Im keen on trying my lucks with catching carp. Ive tried parramatta lake, used some wonderwhite under a float but didnt even have a bite. Any other places you guys recommend? any tips with my rig and setup? I really wanna land one of these fish for some random reason. I use light gear, so when i do hook up i wanna have abit of fun and play around with it. Im actually just using my SP outfit, with a 7 foot rod and 1 lb main line fireline and 6 lb flurocarbon. Size 6 hook on the end with a float around 70 cm from the hook. Im using Wonderwhite for bait, and burley up with some Chicken food. I usually throw it into the lake and let it flow down with the current then reel it back up and repeat the process. ANY HINTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS GUYS? Help a fellow raider out:) Sean221.
bean
There are a couple of posts on here about Carp already. If you use the search funtion it will show up with some releveant info. As I have said before, I've found live earthworms to be good bait. If you can get your hands on some of these you can just use a running sinker rig. Have you ever seen a pool cleaner work - just crawling along sucking up gunk from the floor? Carp are the same, so whilst i've caught carp on a floating rig using bread i've had much more success with my bait on the floor of the river/dam/lake. I've heard that corn is good, however I've only caught them on bread and worms. I've watched my cousin use the heads from some cooked prawns to catch quite a few and my Uncle claimed to see someone catch one using a cigarette butt at one stage. I've come to the conclusion that so long as it's smelly you should pick up carp on it. If you're not having any luck in Parramatta Lake, try anywhere along the Nepean River or any of the creeks that run into it. I've seen people fishing Toongabbie Creek, and as mad as it sounds they all claim it is full of carp.

Jew Stalker
I grew up on the Nepean River in Emu Plains, Caught many a carp on the north side of the weir on bread and corn and worms as a kid. You find bass in there as well in the snags. If you use a float and bread in the nepean and fish it near the surface you will catch mullet too which can be a bit of fun for the kiddies. The problem with the river now though is that it is full of weed, I haven't been there for a few years but it wasn't looking too happy with weeds breaking the surface in quite a few places the last time I was there so I am not sure how carp will react to this. I still think the north side of the weir is best. BTW I have pulled out a carp at about a meter there I swear, It weighed a ton (I was about 11) as I walked home with it. I got home and after asking my uncle what it was he said it was a carp and no good for eating and threw it away which kinda threw me off fishing till I was older in my late 20's when I caught a bream at almost 60cm and from then time it was on... there was no stopping me. WOW a bream that size hope you got some pics of it as it would easily be a new Australian record, can't say i've ever seen a pic of one over 50cm personally.. Jew Stalker
I didnt actually, the only record I have of it was a length and weight measurement at the little tackle shop/fish and chip shop crossing over the hacking on tom uglies. To be honest I was such a novice then that I didn't even know the average size of a bream. I caught it sitting on the boat ramp jetty at lilli pilli in the middle of the night on prawns. I went there because I couldn't sleep one night. It was a decision which changed my life hehehehe. Edited February 18, 2012 by Jew Stalker
murraykf
Tinned corn kernals are the go for catching carp. Use as small a running sinker as you need to get it to the bottom. No. 4-6 hook fill it completely with corn and you are away. Would probably go up to 2kg main line at the least as carp can get MASSIVE. Caught mountains of them in Forbes, in the river and the lake, if the cod fishing in the river was slow on any day we would always throw some corn on to catch a carp and liven things up a bit. Sorry can't help with spots around your area

When i was at the nepean river i also saw allot of weed, i did think aswell if it was good or bad for fishing, thinking that the weed gave the fish somewhere to hide, but i really have no idea what im talking about some times. haha. I might have to try and fish the nepean some time during uni, as my uni is down that way. And i will definetly bring Corn, Worms, and Bread. Thank you for helping me out! appreciate it:) Cheers, sean221
