Bracey
G'day Guys Fairly basic question but I don't want to lose my anchor by getting it wrong. At the yakka spot in front of the pill boxes off West Head do you use a danforth sand anchor or is it reef underneath there and need a pick? Us13feb05
I just use a sand anchor and never had any problems
fishingrod
Ive been using a reef pick at West Head for about 6 years. Never any problems getting it to bite. The current isn't normally that strong. The only time that you really put any pull on the anchor is if there is a breeze or a good swell surge running. Im not sure what the bottom is to be honest. Mix of rock, weed and small sand patches I think. Half the time Im there its still dark! cheers Rod
Bracey
Thanks Clemo80 and fishingrod for the replies. I might stick with the reef pick. Worst case is it doesn't catch I guess. Cheers, Bart
Stealthmission
I was the same... having only just got a boat I headed there last Friday for yakkas... the sounder showed a mix of reef and sand/wedd patches. We just used the sand anchor in an area about 50 m from shore and it worked a treat... unfortunately the yakkas weren't such a treat with the Jew!
