mrsswordfisherman Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 Tuesday, 6 March 2012 Maritime Alert –Significant Wave Heights Forecast Roads and Maritime Services has issued an alert following a Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)warning about a deepening low over the Tasman Sea which is expected to generate large waves along the NSW coast, south from the Hunter region. The forecast is for significant wave heights expected to increase during Wednesday, with conditions worsening on Thursday as the swell increases. Dangerous sea conditions may continue into Friday. Maritime advises skippers and owners of small craft to be on high alert and to check the conditions before heading out on the water. Strong winds can also translate into dangerous conditions for vessels on moorings which have been poorly maintained. Every skipper is responsible forthe safety of their vessel and all on board, and NSW Maritime advises skippers to: · Check the official weather before and during boating; · Ensure the boat and its equipment is suitable for the conditions; · Log on/ off with a Marine Rescue NSW marine radio base for every trip offshore; and · Wear a lifejacket.
