asDogs
I'm currently really new to fishing, So i was just wondering What is the best bait to use on Parramatta river to get Bream to bite? I'm always getting little puffer fish but nothing else Also, What's a good rigging set up? Should I use a sinker or should I just let the bait float around on the surface with no sinker and wait for the Bream to take it and go?
redpump
I've been using yabbies/nippers for bream, peeled prawn also works very well. However, bream will eat most baits that are common (even bread?). I personally prefer the yabbies. Just make sure you hook on your bait properly as the bream like to suck their food (I had a lot of yabby shells still attached to my hook). Yaulpang
I fish the Parra river for bream and find good baits are chicken thigh fillets and mullet fillets. Cut them into strips and hook them once through a circle hook. No weight is best and use light lines, I use 6lb. Honestly I've got a spinning rod and expensive reels but I find I catch the most fish with a $2.50 handline. Sounds funny but it's true. My favourite spot is on Friend Ave, Five Dock http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?msid=212521006605500203310.0004baf62e93019953343&msa=0&ll=-33.862863,151.122505&spn=0.000605,0.001321 Some hints for success - Fish at night - Fish the run in tide 2hrs before high tide - Cast within 3m of shore, at your feet is ok - Practice your strike as bream pick up your bait and drag it away. You need to hook them with a flick of the wrist...just have a go - Fish with light line and no sinker Oh and lastly do yourself a favour and don't eat the fish there. The stormwater channel drains the car body shops on kings Rd and the area is old landfill (reclaimed land). Catch and release or feed the cat. Good luck Paul
asDogs
Paul, Thanks for the tips! Honestly appreciated muchly, Where's a good place to be able to catch fish to eat? I'd heard stories about Parramatta River and not to keen on getting sick from eating fish anytime soon :/ The Five Dock place seems like a really nice settlement to fish, Does it get rather busy there? Yaulpang
Oh and the spot at Five Dock is nice and quiet. No need to put up with crowds at that spot.
joel.pringle
Anywhere west of the Harbour Bridge it's not recommended to eat fish, especially Bream and Flatheads that tend to stay local. Hrgh
asDogs
Ah thanks for that information, I won't be eating anything from that area anytime soon Do you's think the fish in Balmain Area is good and edible? or same story?
