have been thinking about this for a while and have read a few forums about guys trolling livies from a yak for jewies... I am a little over fishing outside all the time and have decided to install an electric on my boat and start spend a bit more time in the river... To get to the point i was wondering if anyone has had experience using an electric motor to slow troll lives for jewing... Either at night or through the day. also do you think a downrigegr would increase my chances??

Hi Matt,

Definitely no expert here, as my jewie count stands at 1 lol. But we have been hunting them for the last few months before we finally found them, this is down at the shoalhaven river (not sure where u fish). When we did find the jewie spot the boats that go there all drift with the current using livies (poddy mullet). We dont have an electric on the boat, and it would make things a lot easier, but we just get to the top of the drift, shut it off, livies in and let the current do its work. You have to find the right spots or the jewie will probably be few and far between, flattie and chopper taylor are usually greedy by catch on the shoalhaven though.

I down rigged a big bully mullet all through the hacking in my kayak, there is no reason why it wouldn't get smashed, but my mullet didn't get touched.

I'd much prefer casting large lures for them, if you've got an electric

Thanks Guys

Have heard good things about the shoalhaven but have never had a chance to fish down there.

I use to fish the hacking a fair bit.. have found it to be pretty tough going to get a few fish... Never managed anything of decent size in there... Burraneer bay was alwasy the most productive though... Lures hey that sounds interesting

I have recently decided that i want to try something different... have not got an electric yet but am looking at getting one in the next month or so. Just have to iron out a few problems like re- designing the bow rail.. but by the sounds like it may be a very worthwhile investment. everone that has one seems to love using it!!

Hmmmm....
