not a bad idea, I'm heading there for my honeymoon in 3 weeks... I'll give the missus $500 to go shopping and I'll go fishing.

You'll need to be more specific as to which island you be staying on. Kona on the Big Island is the main fishing area where you fish in the lee of the volcano in calm conditions. If you are staying in Wakiki which is the most popular tourist area there's no mountain for shelter and it can get very rough. Then there are still several other islands as well. I suggest you go to either boat harbour when you arrive and walk the docks so you see what boat suits your need and budget. Last time I was there (quite a few years back) I picked a 26' Blackfin in Kona because it was a solo charter and the price and size was mangeable for just myself and skipper and I knew the conditions would be great. We managed to get a large yellowfin and marlin which we brought back to the Co-op to sell by 11.30 as being a smaller boat he couldn't keep them iced all day and went back out the whole 2-3 mile and lost an 800lb Blue in the afternoon. But in Wakiki I paid extra for a 46' Hatteras because I knew it would be rough and it was, so rough the crew wanted to come home but seeing the skipper wouldn't refund my cash I stuck it out in conditions that where very ordinary and we did manage to catch a Blue marlin late in the day.

Hi there,

I did pretty much the same as boattart last year. Smaller boat out of Kona for a very reasonable price. Was there for my wedding so had a couple of the guys come out with me, but the next time I go back will be going solo. More chance being on strike when the only marlin of the day hits!! :yahoo:

If you would like contact details I will send you a PM.

Good luck

Make sure and check which marina your charter leaves from.If it is from Ko Olina then it is about a 40 minute drive from Waikiki. Don't have an individual charter to recommend in Honolulu. I found it difficult to try and arrange a share charter as most would only book the whole boat, which is why I ended up driving out to Ko Olina.
